Editorial guide by Dream Unsaid · Updated

They were suddenly articulate, or they took your hand in a corridor at work, or they walked past without a flicker of recognition and you woke up offended on your own behalf. Crush dreams are unusually well remembered, which is part of why they are so unsettling: the night produced a version of a person you barely have evidence for, and produced it in high resolution. Two claims get attached to that experience almost immediately — that the dream reveals what they feel, or that it reveals what is about to happen between you. Neither survives contact with how the material was sourced. Start instead with what you had been noticing.

01

The scene was built from what you already collected

Every ingredient in that dream arrived through your eyes at some earlier point: the way they hold a cup, a phrase they used in a meeting, the exact shape of a jacket. The night rearranged your own collection and handed it back with a plot attached, which is why the details feel so accurate while the conclusion feels so large. Accuracy about a cufflink is not accuracy about an intention. Write down what the scene actually contained before the memory tidies it — that tends to shrink a confession into a look, and a look into a moment when they laughed at something you said and you had been waiting all week to hear it.

02

Three versions of them, and only one is a report

Notice which of these you actually had. Version one: they wanted you, openly and without complication. Version two: they were indifferent, cruel, or already spoken for. Version three: they were simply present, doing something ordinary, and the intensity came entirely from your side of the scene. The three point at different questions. The first is usually about wanting to be chosen. The second often travels with a fear you would not state aloud in daylight. The third is the most easily overlooked and sometimes the most informative, because nothing happened and you still woke up moved. Only version one is ever read as news about them, and it is the least reliable of the three.

03

Wanting is information about you, not a signal

The reliable content here is the wanting itself, and it is worth a longer look than the person it happens to be attached to. What does being chosen by them stand for — being seen at work, being someone's first choice, being allowed to stop performing? Those are ordinary human wishes, and they do not require this particular person to be true. There is also a practical boundary: if they are a colleague, a friend's partner, someone's employee or otherwise not freely available, the dream stays yours and does not become a task. Reflecting on a feeling and acting toward a person are two separate decisions, and only one of them was made while you slept.

Questions you might have

Does dreaming about my crush mean they are thinking about me?

There is no test for that, and a dream cannot serve as one. The scene was assembled from your side of the acquaintance — what you noticed, what you hoped, what you were afraid of. Treating it as evidence about their inner life tends to produce a confidence you have no way to check, followed by a conversation that is hard to walk back.
